New Hope Rescue

12/06:
Classy and Cheers, both Quarter horses, were turned in to us when their owner fell onto hard times and
was unable to take care of them... and simply stopped feeding them. They were lucky enough to have a
caring neighbor who fed them for months until the owner was convinced to release them to a rescue.
They were both stallions, so we had to find a safehouse for them that could handle them while they were
gelded and healed from their surgery. They were gelded in the middle of December, 2006. Classy is
approximately 10 years old.
2/28/2007:
Classy is a truly wonderful horse!! He is very people oriented, has great ground manners, and has been
turned out with both mares and geldings with no studdish behavior!!! He is currently safehoused at a
barn where he shares a pasture with a 2 yr old gelding, and where he has quickly become a barn
favorite with the 4H kids. He has been ridden bareback by kids from 12-16 years old. He has yet to
meet a kid he doesn't fall in love with!!! {NOTE: Classy was returned because of alleged aggression
toward other horses. We have not seen this, but, we decided to be safe and house him alone. We have
not exposed him to other horses yet to see for ourselves.}
We have had one glitch with Classy. After he started to work, he came up slightly lame in the left front.
As it turns out, he has a mild case of navicular disease. We are still in the process of working with the
vet and the farrier to determine what the best course of action is, and what kind of work is best for him
in the future. But in the meantime... Classy has become a very, very expensive rescue. His bills at this
point are close to $2500, what with the gelding, treatment for an infection, teeth floating, vaccinations, a
bout with ulcers, and the lameness work-up which itself topped $600. We could really, really use some
help with offsetting his costs. Classy is an amazing horse, but our funds per rescue are very limited.
Can you help Classy, or, help us come up with fund-raising ideas?? Do you have time to do a small
fundraiser in Classy's name? Please let us know!!
The 4-H kids raised $500 towards Classy's vet bills!!!!!!!!!!!!
And if that wasn't enough to have us doing back flips, I had the honor of going to meet a couple of them today and watching them care for and ride Classy...
